Mr Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kessben, 59, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kessben Group of Companies and his only daughter, Claudia Kesse, 24, made friends and family proud when they both recently graduated from the university.
Apart from obtaining the LLB, he holds a B.A. Hons. Degree (Economics and Law) with First Class Honours and MBA Finance from the Business School at the same university.
Kessben said he felt extremely proud about the honour done him by his only daughter and intends opening a legal office for her after completing her LLM to give legal aid to members of society who are disadvantaged in accessing legal services.
Claudia in a smile said “I am indeed blessed and motivated to have my father by my side in the pursuit of my dream. We have currently applied for the professional school of law and hoped we get it together. We have been a team and hoping for a bright future!”
According to Mr Boateng, the acquisition of knowledge through education brought about attitudinal and behavioural change, thus helping people to understand complex issues and be more respected in these contemporary times.
He is of the firm belief that there is nothing like too late in our emerging circumstances and that wherever you find yourself, you could improve on your status by aspiring to reach the top at any particular point in time.
Kessben was born on September 12, 1957 to Opanin Joseph Anane Boateng alias Kwame Boateng from Ashanti Mampong and Obaapanin Elizabeth Osei also known as Adwoa Dufie from Atwima-Manhyia, both of blessed memory.
He grew up at North Suntreso in Kumasi where he had his basic education. Afterwards, he enrolled at the Assin Fosu Teachers Training College to be trained as a teacher in 1981.
After completing college, he taught for three years and later travelled abroad to seek greener pastures.
Mr Kesse was among the pioneers in Ghana to start the importation of used items. He later ventured into the chemical shop and supermarket chain business.
Between 1990 and 1992 when secretarial and communication services became big business, he took advantage of the situation to set up what was then known as communication centres throughout the Kumasi Metropolis.
From there, he established the Kessben Computer School in 1993 to provide computer training to students, as well as workers who needed training in computer skills.
Under his portfolio of businesses are a travel and tours agency, Joe Forex Bureau, Kessben Housing, Kessben Driving School, Multicredit Savings and Loans, Kessben Shipping, Forwarding and Trading Limited, Fosuah Hotel and lodges, two football clubs, a clinic and an FM station.
One of his major accomplishment was the establishment of the Kessben University College in 2015 to augment the contribution of the traditional universities in the country. The college is intended to bridge academia and industry.
Mr Kesse’s success and achievements in the business world started on a humble note guided by the principles of hard work, honesty, dedication, perseverance, modesty, fear of God and selflessness.
These personal values have shaped him to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs and astute businessmen in the country.
Indeed, he has over 29 years of managing a complex business undertaking with about 16 companies under his portfolio.
Among the most unique strengths of Mr Kesse is the fact that he has a strong desire to always succeed, good sense of responsibility and initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment.
